Apple Saves The Day

So today was the big day in Appleville and everyone and their brother is talking about the new intel macs. I am excited too but I offer this quick piece of advise: NEVER BUY A V1 APPLE PRODUCT. Especially not when they are making a colossal change like this. Wait for the REV2 or buy a refurbished model, trust me.

But I am not here to talk about the new products. I am here to let everyone in on the BEST thing that Apple released today. Ready? They finally fixed the half-assed javascript engine in Safari with the 10.4.4 update (Safari is now 2.0.3). Or they fixed a big issue with it at least.

You know how you can never use a WYSIWYG editor in Safari? I bet that annoys the hell out you too. It's because the "selection.createRange()" javascript function was completely broken. I have probably emailed Apple about this a million times, and have immediately downloaded every update to Safari to test for it. So you can imagine my disbelief today after downloaded the update and ritualistically testing this function when it actually worked. So far the "blogosphere" doesn't seemed to have noticed. (That is the first and last time I will use that term on this site I swear)

What the Hell are you talking about? OK. If you are running Tiger 10.4.3 and have not updated to 10.4.4 yet, browse over to this great WYSIWYG example, highlight some words in that textbox (like 'that there') with your mouse, and click the "B" button underneath to wrap the selection with bold tags. See the mess you get? YUK! That is what happens when your "selection.createRange()" is totally messed.

Now run the update on your computer. Once it is done and you have restarted, open up Safari and browse back to Massless. Do the same thing. It works! YES!

Of course I could have been using Firefox on my computers to do this type of thing all along. Firefox is fantastic if you are using a PC and have become accustomed to the piece of crap that is IE. But in my opinion Firefox is still way chunkier and slower than Safari on OS X. Camino is getting way better but is dealing with some password issues which are a deal breaker.

Anyway, all your blog software should pick up on this shortly Safari users will not be forced against their will to type markup code by hand. Thanks Apple!
