Kansas school board redefines science

A very sad day for the (formerly?) most scientifically advanced country in the world.

"...the Kansas Board of Education approved new public school science standards Tuesday that cast doubt on the theory of evolution. The 6-4 vote was a victory for "intelligent design" advocates who helped draft the standards. Intelligent design holds that the universe is so complex that it must have been created by a higher power.'

The story on CNN.

hey mike, i work from home now so i get pretty board and look for any excuse to avoid doing any actual work. i check your site every now and then and something on it always manages to inform, enlighten, or enrage me. that probably means your doing a pretty good job. i apologize in advance for the semi incoherent stream of left wing rhetoric that is to follow.

second guessing the scientifically proven theory of evolution is something so ridiculous it could only have been dreamed up and/or supported by religious right wing groups. they have all the right in the world to their opinion but this country is suppose to have a separation of church and state so their biased and ignorant views have no business in a public school. further more evolution doesn't necessarily disprove the existence of a higher power. a great explosion that sent a series of events into motion that created the universe could be considered a higher power. we don't have to understand or define a higher power. only the religious right would have the gall to try and do that. no matter what you believe you can't ignore science and no one should push religious views onto kids in public school. this country is supposed to be a melting pot of cultures and religions so no one religion’s views should be given any special treatment over another’s by our government. the constitution and really the bill of rights have taken a lot of severe hits in the last five or so years and this is just another one. if we really have a separation of church and state in this country then why would there even be the question of gay marriage? the only reasoning for outlawing gay marriage is either religious or homophobic and neither have any business in our laws or government.

on the bright side, we've had a small unrelated victory today.

the artic drilling bill was nixed for the time being at least. unfortunately it wasn't abandoned because it's an absolute abomination but just for budgetary reasons. it’s still something though. at this point i'll take any victory we can get.

Have something to say?
